2.62 Carat Sunstone

Sunstone is a member of the Feldspar group of minerals. It can be seen with a range of colors from the most common warm hues of peach, yellow, orange, pink, champagne, and to colorless. To the rare hues of blue, green, and teal. What makes sunstone notable are the inclusions often trapped within the stone. Consisting of either elemental copper or hematite, they create the phenomenal effect of aventurescence. This same effect can be related to schiller, or the way the light reflects off of these inclusions as you move the stone. Aventurescence is not a requirement for Sunstone though, with many fine gems being completely transparent. Sunstones Mohs hardness ranges from 6.5-7.2, with 2 directions of cleavage. Although suitable for jewelry use, care must be taken to protect the stone from impacts or abrasion.
